A testament to a century of hospitality and service to the Wynnum area. Little did they know, this milestone would set the stage for a new era of excellence under the stewardship of the Smitham Group who took over in 2013.

July 28, 2000, the Waterloo Bay Hotel was bestowed with an official honor, being recognized as a heritage site within Queensland. This recognition not only affirmed the historical significance of the establishment but also underscored its enduring legacy in the hearts of the community.

Now, as we step into 2024, Waterloo Bay Hotel stands as a beacon of modernity while cherishing its rich heritage. Over the years, the hotel has undergone numerous renovations and enhancements, each one adding a layer of sophistication and comfort for its patrons.

One of the most notable additions in recent times is the introduction of Hepburns, a premium steakhouse nestled within the premises of Waterloo Bay Hotel. With its exquisite culinary offerings and elegant ambiance, Hepburns has quickly become a favorite dining destination for locals and visitors alike.

Significant renovations and upgrades have been made to the gaming section, first in 2014 and again recently in 2024, transforming it into a space that exudes both comfort and modernity. Whether indulging in a round of games or simply unwinding with friends, patrons can now enjoy an enhanced gaming experience.

The hotel’s commitment to catering to diverse interests is further evident with the inclusion of a famous sports bar in 2015, drawing in local customers. Additionally, Fig Restaurant which was expanded in 2017 adding 350 seats offers a enjoyable experience for families, boasting a spacious outdoor kids’ play area and a charming beer garden where patrons can soak in the atmosphere while cheering on their favorite teams.

Beyond its leisure offerings, Waterloo Bay Hotel continues to serve as a haven for guests and businesses alike, offering a range of accommodation options from cozy rooms to fully furnished apartments. It’s a testament to the hotel’s unwavering dedication to providing unparalleled hospitality and service to all who walk through its doors. The motel was renovated in 2022, adding 40 modern rooms of accommodation, ensuring guests experience the utmost comfort during their stay.

Headed up by 4th generation accountant Justin Ham, whose family resides on the Bayside, the Smitham Group has overseen the hotel’s transformation. Furthermore, from 2017 to 2022, the group undertook an ambitious project, developing the first cinema in Wynnum in over 40 years, alongside managing multiple independent bottle shops and expanding to operate five sites across the region.
